In the current dynamic world, the path to success for both the employer and the employee is constantly changing. The constricting labour market, coupled with a restricted set of skills, creates a broad skill gap while continually increasing the employee turnover rate.

On the other hand, the organizations are securing their top talents to maintain their critical positions in this competitive market. In these challenging times, individuals only have a single option to upskill and reskill themselves to stay ahead in the game and remain relevant in this technology-ruled world.

Learning has been and still is the only potential remedy to several problems that organizations face in this volatile labour market. In fact, an organization can easily keep its 94% of employees if they choose to upskill them instead of replacing them. Also providing learning opportunities while working can help keep the employees for a longer time.

However, not every training is efficient, and the company has to balance several trends at the same time. Emerging technologies, learner’s preferences and needs, and the latest learning methods are some of the factors that determine the quality of the training.

In this article, we will discuss the emerging learning trends that can potentially change the future of the training industry. By staying in the loop with these trends, an employer can stay ahead of the curve.

1- Mobile learning

Earlier, most of the e-learning courses were designed to be learnt at a desktop, but now they are being modified for cellular devices. Mobile learning is one of the biggest e-learning trends seen in 2021 and involves building concepts for mobiles instead of desktops. As people are always on the move, it is crucial to create content that is easily accessible on the go. Now the concepts are designed for mobile learning first and then modified for the desktops as there is a larger audience for mobile learning than desktop learning.

2- Personalized e-learning

This trend is specifically targeted for millennials when they enter the workplace as they are the true digital natives. When joining an organization, the companies will present the millennials with mobile-ready and curated content to personalize their learning experiences. As the millennials are accustomed to having everything at their finger-tips, providing them with personalized content will keep them engaged.

3- Microlearning

Microlearning uses resources of media across multiple devices to inspire and engage the audience to dig deeper. Unlike the majority of e-learning courses, microlearning encourages the audience to apply what they learn immediately. As employees do not have a lot of free time on their hands to dedicate to training, they have to learn quickly in a limited time. By creating small and actionable learning strategies, an employer can efficiently train his employees.

4- Gamification

Gamification of content helps in creating engaging and immersive learning experiences for the audience. Earlier, it was considered an ineffective learning method, but it has come a long way to become an effective learning strategy. It offers higher engagement than traditional learning strategies and is the more fun, rewarding, interactive, and motivating learning method.

5- Video training

Video training helps to provide the employee with a real-time and virtual assessment of the work profile. By visually presenting the situation you an employer can reduce the time required to train the employees and do so in large numbers. As having a live picture in front of you reduces guesswork, it can also reduce human error.

Video training is beneficial for companies looking to train their employees while in a different location. This way, employers can train the employees for the job before they actually start work.

6- Digitization of Instructor-Led training

Virtual Instructor-Led training combines all the benefits of on-the-job training with the advantage of doing it remotely. It can include an entire class or some activities completed together. This e-learning method is beneficial as it not only provides personalized lessons to the viewers but can also address a large group of people at the same time. It basically works the same way as every school, institute or university does accept the need to be physically present in the class.

7- Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality training

What was once considered futuristic and only viable for video games has now become one of the best e-learning trends. This technology is still in its nascent stage, and the potential for its usage is limitless. Due to the current scenario, training on the job is not an option while working from home. Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Training can allow employees to learn while at home and work through challenging simulations to adapt to the job’s requirement.

8- AI-powered learning

Artificial powered learning can help employers train employers by avoiding the ineffective one-size-fits-all approach and work on personalized training methods. It can also help prevent the limitation of online quizzes, assessments and tests. As most of the testing methods today assess every participant, in the same manner, it can quickly lose out the participant’s other talents and experience.

Using content recommendation AI can present a personalized learning process for every individual, helping them learn only relevant information. The AI can analyze the user’s profile, position, skills and learning history to determine the best course. These are some of the emerging e-learning trends that are sure to shape the future of the training industry.
